Herbal Foot Soak Recipe For Tired or Calloused Feet

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

Sit back and relax while your feet are softened with this aromatherapy foot soak recipe!

Having worked with essential oils for over a decade, we've made some exciting combinations that are both soothing to the feet and the nostrils. In this article, we are sharing one of our favorites with you. Here is what one of our users said about this combination.

My feet felt great and look more vibrant, and I loved the soothing smell, it felt like I was at a spa! –Robin S.

This recipe is a salt-based foot soak infused with essential oils. The great part about this is that it can be used as a foot scrub and a foot soak. We've been blending essential oils for our Shoe Defenders products focussing on essential oils with attributes supporting good foot health. Our Shoe Defenders have a proprietary blend of over 20 essential oils working in concert to help fight bad smells in your shoes and we've sold this blend as a foot scrub/soak. Now we understand having 20+ essential oils on hand is a bit challenging, so we decided to simplify some recipes so you could make them at home. The goal was to include some essential oils with known anti-fungal properties while adding some top and bottom notes to smooth out the herbal medicinal tones. One fun fact: We had a chef once smell our Shoe Defenders and he picked out the culinary herbs in a heartbeat. It is pretty amazing he could pick out Thyme from Oregano with over 20 other oils present in the mix!

Herbal Foot Soak Recipe for Tired Feet

This recipe is meant to be a guide. We provided options for substituting some ingredients so you can work with what you may already have, or choose to purchase some more cost effective oils and salts.

Here is the backbone of the recipe:

  • 35 Drops Essential Oil

  • 3 oz Carrier Oil

  • 8 oz Salt (fine ground)

  • 1 Tbsp Dried Herbs

  • Vitamin E (only if you intend on storing the soak for a while)

And here is the customized recipe:

  • 7 drops oregano oil

  • 13 drops Fir oil

  • 15 drops Lavender oil

  • 1 oz coconut oil

  • 2 oz grapeseed oil

  • 8 oz Pink Himalayan Salt

  • 1 Tbsp Dried Sage

  • 10 drops Vitamin E oil (only if you plan on keeping the salts for longer than 1 month)

Substitute salts: Epsom, other sea salt

*Substitute for grapeseed oil: Olive, Jojoba,

*Substitute for coconut oil: Shea butter, Wax, Cocoa Butter,

Dried Herbs: Mint, Lavender, Sage, and more

*You can also just use one oil to simplify the recipe

Instructions:

  1. Add salt to a large mixing bowl

  2. Add Carrier oils together in a separate microwave safe bowl and microwave for 15 seconds. Stir the mixture until it is all liquid. Add an additional 15 seconds if needed.

  3. Add Essential oils to the Carrier Oils

  4. Add oil mixture to the salt

  5. Add the herbs to the salt and mix the ingredients thoroughly

Store the herbal soak in glass jars or metal tins. Be careful with storing in plastic containers as some plastics will absorb the essential oils.

We hope you enjoy this recipe! And feel free to explore with your own mixtures as well.
